Our process starts with sitting down with our clients to determine their priorities, needs, and goals. Next we compile a thorough site analysis developed with observations made at key times of the day. We then create rough drafts of 3 alternate designs. Once our client's preferred option is chosen we then do a more detailed 3 layer design with the primary layer in full color. The layers allow for detailed schematics of drainage and irrigation, as well as a layer reserved for plant and hardscape features. For larger properties we recommend a full property design with a separate 3 layer design for the space surrounding the home otherwise known as "zone 1"
Our process starts with a thorough site analysis used to determine sun exposure zones, prevailing winds, water flow dynamics, fire danger, and any other relevant characteristics that help to determine plants and landscape features that will be in harmony with the property and it's surrounding environment and existing natural systems.
We then compose an advanced drainage plan that allows for water to be managed in a way that maximizes water retention and responsible and efficient usage and runoff
The foundation of any healthy landscape is a robust and efficient irrigation plan that when possible uses natural water flowing through the land to irrigate the land while simultaneously helping to charge your local aquifer enhancing water resources for you and your surrounding neighbors over time.
First we present our clients with 3 black and white rough drafts of alternate themes to choose from. This one features raised beds for gardening at waist height to protect from dogs and for easy access if time creates mobility constraints. surrounded by an aesthetic planted privacy screen sanctuary.
This alternative design is a canine race track for burning off energy when dogs are feeling hyper active more focused on creating a fun playground while offering an aesthetically pleasing flower and edibles garden.
This is the drainage layer of our canine racetrack showing the makeup of the drainage system underlying the permanent equestrian padding racing surface. The sump based drainage system was designed to create a lens feeding the local aquifer.
This design was to accommodate for both human and canine utilization of the yard with extensive stone mulching and landscaping to prevent digging.
Our clients went with our initial suggestion of creating an extensive dog park excluding the dogs from the immediate back yard, allowing for this immersive and intimate flower garden with sauna, fire circle, and outdoor kitchen design.
Dog park is located on North side of property the owner's high energy breeds extensive romping grounds. Fence lines are set back from the property edge. Fence line is set up in such a way as to not create the gated feeling cutting house access off from neighbors. This fosters a sense of connection and community matching the intentions and personalities of the owners.
Simple water management and irrigation design allows for water to be harvested from runoff and stored at elevation allowing for landscaping to be watered independent of municipal water or augmented with municipal water when necessary.
